HOLIDAYS! A morning bike ride to Wrocław (29th July 2025)

Описание: I had an errand to run towards the end of my holidays. For a pragmatic person, it would have involved a short train journey followed by a bus ride... but not for me!

I used to do frequent bike commutes to Wrocław when I was a student and I travelled around the city on a bike a lot. I wanted to see how much the place has changed over the last two decades and experience it on a bike again.

Wrocław recently made it to the prestigious Top 30 of the Copenhagenize Index report and while the infrastructure quality throughout the city varies greatly - I felt I could get to places on a bike without much stress. There was always an option available.

I started in the middle of nowhere by the train line from my nearby hometown, quickly made it to the city, headed into the wild for a bit (Wyspa Opatowicka!) and treated myself to some great food at Vega, Poland's oldest vegan food place ( https://barvega.pl ) where I actually remember going with my Mum once back in the late 80's when it was a vegetarian bar...

There was a second part to the ride and I ended up with something like 47 miles in total. The morning, captured in this video felt really special though.
Living in Scotland, I don't get many chances to enjoy warm, sunny mornings and complicated parenthood means I don't have much time to myself.
So when I asked myself 'do you really want to get up at 4am and ride that bike instead of getting some sleep?', the answer was 'Of course I do!'.
No regrets!
