A cloud of smoke has risen above Rome as a waste disposal centre went on fire in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
The massive cloud is visible from everywhere in the city and firefighters have spent the entire day trying to placate the fire.
The combustion of debris at the TMB Salario waste disposal centre is causing great health concerns amongst people living in the city.
The city's administration issued a statement advising residents to lock their windows and to avoid outdoors activities.
