Milngavie to Drymen: Does the West Highland Way Live Up to the Hype?

We’re kicking off Scotland’s most famous long-distance trek by hiking from the official starting point in Milngavie to the charming village of Drymen.

This 12-mile (19km) stretch is the perfect introduction to the trail, but the Scottish weather definitely kept us on our toes!

In this video, follow along as we trade the suburbs of Glasgow for the rugged beauty of the Lowlands. We experienced everything from pouring rain to glorious sunshine within just a few hours—true Scottish "changeable weather" at its finest! 🌦️

Highlights of this stage:

The Start Line: Getting that iconic photo at the Milngavie town center obelisk.

Mugdock Country Park: Winding through ancient woodlands and past the ruins of Mugdock Castle.

Craigallian Loch: A peaceful spot with stunning reflections (even in the rain!).

The Scenery Shift: Watching the landscape open up as we catch our first glimpses of Dumgoyne and the Campsie Fells.

The Finish: Arriving in Drymen, home to the famous Clachan Inn, Scotland’s oldest licensed pub.
