Here's the open for the 4pm newscast at Fox 46, WJZY, in Charlotte, North Carolina. After months in the making, and several revisions, Fox 46 News has transitioned into Carolina's Own Queen City News. This is the first show with the new image, which debuted on Monday, January 10, 2022 on the 4pm newscast. Also included is the live topical prior to the show, a bump to break, and a promo.
I am a big fan of the name and image - I think the station really knocked it out of the park here with the name and logo. Their product is also really, really good. Nexstar has really poured money into this station since taking over, and boosting the size of the team. The market leader, WBTV, also has a very large team for being a Gray station, and I feel like Nexstar is trying to go after them.
They have a new set which technically debuted in September but was mostly used in tight shot form until today. They have one of the best CSDs in the business, Erik Candiani, guiding the ship there and they have not one, but two, big name voice guys doing work for them: Steve Kamer and Beau Weaver. Candiani is apparently a big fan of Weaver's work and his used him at almost all of the shops he has been CSD at (KTVU being the exception). Kamer pre-dates Candiani's time at the station, debuting late in the Fox days, and they are likely just trying to burn the contract with him. The two talent are used interchangeably although Weaver could be considered their "main" voice guy.
Graphics are a custom version of the FOX-1 package: FOX-G, with modified colors that are likely inspired by those of the Carolina Panthers. Music appears to be a mix of production music, dropping the Beyond theme from Stephen Arnold.
The "Fox 46" brand appears intact in the logo bug for now, but I believe that's just transitional as they slowly retire that name in favor of "Fox Charlotte", as that's the brand being used outside of news.
