Suspension 4-3 is a common dissonance in classical harmony where the fourth above the bass (a dissonance) resolves down by step to a consonant third.
This process follows the PSR Rule: preparation (a consonant interval is established), suspension (the note is held to create dissonance), and resolution (the dissonance resolves to a consonance).
Fedele Fenaroli’s Partimenti Rules book provides detailed guidelines for teaching counterpoint and harmony through partimenti, a practical approach used in the Neapolitan school.
