Today, we're talking about LGBT rights and privacy in Lawrence v. Texas, 539 U.S. 558 (2003), the anti-sodomy case that brought about the decriminalization of same-sex intimate conduct in the United States. This is the case that explicitly overturned the Bowers decision from 1986.
When you talk law and LGBT rights in the United States, this is considered a tipping point as the court looked at the privacy right of citizens, including LGBT people and how that interacts with the constitution. Here, the court found that LGBT individuals had access to the same sort of privacy protection for intimte sexual conduct as straight people.
