Описание: Miniature railway historian and stalwart of the Rhyl Miniature Railway, Simon Townsend takes a look at the background and involvement of W.J. Bassett Lowke in the development of Miniature Railways in Britain.

From GFM : Not saying Henry Greenly and H.G. Wells were the same person, but you never saw them together, did you

From MD : My measurement of a Heywood sleeper and rails is 15-1/4" gauge.
From MP : 2ft 11in width for two people? these days that would be just about enough for one.
From MD : ...our coaches at the R&GN Ry. are 36" wide for two side-by-side. A little tight nowadays.
From PvZ : He writes about driving during the first and second seasons at Romney
From MP : is that greenly centre left?
From AR : The tender behind the London to Paris express is the one now behind Little Giant - it has three rivets per bolster while all others have four (including the other White City loco)
From WT : Is that the location of pleasure beach today?
From Jl : it is within the pleasure Beach site now
From WT: Thought so, there is a wonderful documentary on YouTube about pleasure beach which the railway is mention
From MT : In the Breslau picture, what is the cylinder underneath the smokebox door?
From JP : What's the barrel like structure on the front running plate of the BL at Breslau?
From MD : Our rail on the R&GN Ry. is 12 pound.
From JL : the barrel type thing on the front of the engines is a lubricator
From JL : the new zealand loco was built in dunedin works new zealand
From PvZ : It had a Goodhand boiler from England, I think to recall.
From PvZ : It’s that boiler with a repair from the museum years.

From MP : might look good in Ratty green (like River Irt)
From PvZ : evidence of the derailment that required a new cylinder and the non lured connecting rod
From AR : Was Synolda rebuilt by Barnes? The odd cylinder and its rods look rather Barnes like in style.
From MF : ..and the name Synolda? Do we know where that came from?
From MP : I think it came from Robert Walker's first wife (he was the first owner of Synolda).
From GFM : First wife of Robert Walker, owner of Sand Hutton
From RF : IIRC Synolda was the name of a daughter of the Lord of the Manor at Sand Hutton. There was an article long ago in the R&ER Magazine
From GFM : Sir Rober later named an 18" Sand Hutton loco' after his second wife, Esme, but sadly missed an opportunity with his third wife, Intercity 125
From GFM : I did my first passing out turn on Billy!
From MT : Re. Greenly - I'm fairly sure Snell's history of the RHDR says he received a salary from the RH&D company. But I'm afraid I don't have the book to hand at the moment!
From JL : the timber specified for the underframes of the coaches was danzic oak as used in shipbuilding
From JL : 500 pounds for a class 60 to today's money is roughly 50k now
