In 2012, the incendiary, amateurish video — a 14-minute trailer for a supposed full-length feature called “The Innocence of Muslims” — depicts the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) as a buffoon, a womanizer and a child molester - was first uploaded to YouTube in June, and translated into Arabic and uploaded several more times in the week leading up to the anniversary of the September 11 terrorism attacks. This sparked a massive uproar and protest across the world as 1.8 billion Muslims were aggrieved by the video. As the president of the Muslim Club of my school, I was then asked by fellow muslims to lead a protest. Instead, I distributed roses to champion for inter-religious peace and harmony. And that has started a wonderful initiative in the many years to come.
Mohamed is the Founder and President of Roses of Peace, an initiative that first started by distributing roses as a token gesture of peace during a period of global Islamophobia . The initiative now is endorsed by the President of Singapore Mdm Halimah Yacob, and has expanded its scope to inter-faith education and activitism.
