Описание: IN THE CITY OF PARADISE, presented by the Magnet Theatre Fulltime Training and Job Creation program, is a modern reworking of the ancient story of the House of Atreus - vividly recounting the ancient tale of the descendants of Atreus and Thyestes, locked in an ongoing internecine blood feud - which forms the basis for a reflection on justice and vengeance in our own time and situation. Despite policies of reconciliation and a desire to move on to ‘a better life for all,’ the unresolved and festering wounds from our colonial and apartheid past continue to haunt our present, unleashing violent and destructive forces that relentlessly challenge possibilities for social cohesion.

The text is a collage of ideas and fragments from the work of Aeschylus, Sophocles and Euripides woven together and combined with new material.

THE MAGNET THEATRE FULLTIME TRAINING AND JOB CREATION PROGRAM is a 2-year program catering for youth who for one reason or another struggle to be absorbed into the theatre profession and tertiary training at University. The program offers classes in play, imagination, physical theatre, voice, dance, singing, improvisation and play making. To date, 32 trainees have graduated from the training: 15 trainees, first time university attendees in their families, have attended UCT, 6 of whom have graduated and 6 are still studying. 82% of the remaining graduates are employed in the professional theatre industry.

KWAAI CITY is conceived, directed and produced by an enterprising team of interns & trainees on the Film Industry Learner Mentorship (F.I.L.M.) programme (www.filmsa.co.za ; Facebook: Just-call-us-F.I.L.M.), an accredited, not-for-profit skills programme and public benefit organization, guaranteeing aspiring, disadvantaged `filmpreneurs' full industry involvement in training and hands-on experiential learning and mentorship, on local and international film, commercial, television, mobile web & internet productions
