Speaker 1: Today on our 2015 Lincoln MKS, we're gonna be installing the CURT Class 2 One-and-a-Quarter-Inch Trailer Hitch Receiver, part number C12088. This is what it's gonna look like when it's installed. The cross tube's gonna be hidden beneath the bumper so you're only gonna be able to see the receiving tube and safety chain loops, so it won't distract from the look of the vehicle. It's a Class Two receiver so it's gonna work great with your one-and-a-quarter-inch bike rack carriers, cargo carriers or light-duty trailers.
It features hoop-style safety chain loops, which will work with many different types of safety chains. It features a 350-pound tongue weight, which is the force going down on top the receiver and a 3500-pound gross trailer weight, which is the amount that it can pull behind it. Now you do wanna check your vehicle's owner's manual to ensure you're not exceeding its towing capacities. CURT does recommend using a stabilization strap when hauling any non-trailer loads, such as bike racks or cargo carriers, basically anything without wheels. In helping you in deciding on accessories, I've got a few measurements for you. From the ground to the top inside edge of the receiving tube, it's gonna measure about 14 and a quarter inches.
This is important when deciding if you need a ray shank for your bike rack ricardo carrier or drop or rise for your trailer. And from the center of the hitch pin hole to the back edge of the bumper it's gonna measure about four inches. This is helpful when choosing any folding accessories and if you're able to put it in its upright storage position. Now that we've gone over some of the features let's show you how to get it installed. To begin our installation we'll need to lower down our exhaust. Before you lower your exhaust you're gonna wanna support it so as not to cause any damage.
We'll run a strap around our lower control arms and that'll secure them from falling too far and causing any damage. Next we'll need to remove the exhaust hangers located near your muffler tip there. And I'm gonna use some spray lubricant to make it easier to pry off. Then take a pry bar and just pry the rubber off. And we'll repeat that on the other side.
We'll then need to remove the two rubber exhaust hangers towards the front of the vehicle just behind the spare tire pan. This will allow us to access the bolts that we need to remove. Now we'll need to remove the exhaust hangers on both sides. On your passenger side, you'll remove them with an 18 millimeter socket. And on the driver side, you'll remove it with a 10 millimeter socket. And we'll set those aside as we won't be reinstalling them. We'll then take our fish wire provided in the kit, insert the coiled end into the slotted end just forward from the bolts we removed on our driver's side, feed it back to the large hole towards the rear and come down. I like to bend the opposite end to take it in case it wants to pull the wire through. And take one of your spacers, slide it over the coiled end, insert it in the frame and thread on one of the carriage bolts. You'll then pull this back through the hole and down. We'll then take our other fish wire, slide our spacer over the coiled end, thread our bolt onto the coiled end, push the bolt up into the frame, followed by the spacer and then pull it back down. We can now remove the coiled wire from the one we just inserted as we'll need it on our passenger side. On our passenger side, we'll take the fish wire we just removed, slide on a spacer, thread on a carriage bolt, push the bolt up in the frame, followed by the spacer and then pull it back down. We're now ready to lift our hitch into position. And now with that extra set of hands, we're gonna put our hitch into place, making sure to feed through the fish wire through the appropriate holes, sliding it up into position. You'll use the nuts in the kit on the carriage bolts we feed through and one of the existing 18 millimeter head bolts for the passenger side front bolt. That'll thread right back into the existing weld nut that was there that you took it out of.Once you've got one installed on each side, the hitch'll hold itself into place so you can more easily install the rest and remove your fish wire and thread your nuts on them. And now we can tighten down our hardware. We use a 19 millimeter socket on the carriage bolts and nuts. And an 18 millimeter socket for the existing bolt that we reused. Now torqu
