Join me for some VO2 Max intervals at Keighley Track.
VO2 Max is the maximum rate of oxygen you body is able to use. It's important for all levels and distances of running and something everyone should have in their running plan. We do a 3x5minute interval session here at or just below our VO2 Max in order to improve out maximum oxygen uptake. You work your VO2 Max by running a little faster than 5k race pace, or the pace you could hold for around 11 minutes.
Err on the side of running easier: you get no benefit to your VO2 Max from running above the required intensity. Try to get the maximum benefit from the least work! If you push too hard, you won't be able to do all your intervals at the required intensity. Remember: if you have to slow down for you last interval, your first interval was too fast!
This is a tough workout so make sure you recover properly afterwards (that's when you get stronger!)
