SITUATION: The steel shaft is formed by attaching a hollow shaft to a solid shaft.
1. Determine the maximum torque T (kN-m) that can be applied to the ends of the shaft without exceeding a shear stress of 70 MPa
A. 4.71 C. 13.13
B. 10.44 D. 6.52
2. Determine the maximum torque T (kN-m) that can be applied to the ends of the shaft without exceeding an angle of twist of 2.5⁰ in the 3.5-m length.
A. 5.21 C. 4.00
B. 4.76 D. 3.68
3. The attachment uses a 10-mm diameter bolts with allowable shearing stress of 180 MPa. They are to be arranged around 65 mm from the centroid of the shafts. Calculate the required minimum number of bolts based on the governing torque.
A. 3 C. 5
B. 4 D. 6
