First appearing at the first post-war London Motor Show in 1948 was this Daimler DB18 Super Sport, as the second and final prototype ever produced. Presenting in a contrast of cream and red, this unrestored classic is highly collectible as one of 2 prototypes manufactured and is extremely rare, believed as the only assembled vehicle remaining of the two.

With just 500 built in total. Today, these elegant Daimlers DB18 Drophead coupes are an attractive proposition for the enthusiast of high quality, coach built British luxury cars and a great alternative to rivals from Bentley, Lagonda and Alvis.

The Daimler Special Sports is based upon the post war DB18 chassis with several important modifications, the most notable being an overdrive gearbox, high ratio differential, hydro/mechanical brakes, alloy cylinder head and twin carburettors. Its seasoned ash frame, heavy upholstered seats, thick Wilton carpet and beautifully crafted wooden trim, give a weight to the car which reduces the effectiveness of the twin carb’s and alloy cylinder head. The standard DB18 chassis had built in jacks, an automatic lubrication system and heater as standard, which also feature on this car.

Independent suspension appeared for the first time on a Daimler and the DB18 featured an enlarged, 2,522cc version of the overhead-valve six first introduced in 1933. Daimler’s customary fluid flywheel, pre-selector gearbox and worm drive rear axle comprised the transmission. The DB18 Special Sports drophead coupé appeared at the first post-war London Motor Show in 1948:.

Daimler is one of the few manufacturers that can rightfully claim to have been established from the birth of the motor industry, and the marque is still with us today in association with Jaguar.
