We go amongst the bells and air during a quarter attempt of Ipswich Surprise Minor on the fine 6 at Hunton - located just south of Maidstone in rural Kent with open fields surrounding villages and hamlets such as East Farleigh and Wateringbury, just south of the M20.
The tower houses a 1901 ring of Taylor bells, just over 11cwt. They go well, sound fantastic, clear and go relatively well too. A bit of a draft and an interesting set of rope guides to contend with, but relatively easy to obtain good ringing; they did however seem to prefer being run a sedate yet rhythmical pace during our attempt.
The belfry is rather open are, where the bells are suspended directly above the entrance, a ladder running up the side of the wall leading to a loft type environment, fantastic for viewing the bells. A lick of paint a heavy dust wouldn't go a miss though.
