Zermatt and the Matterhorn was a real travel bucket list item for me. This majestic mountain in the Swiss Alps may be the most recognizable and iconic mountain on the planet, perhaps with the Kilimanjaro. In this travel video, I am taking the trip to the Klein Matterhorn on the Matterhorn Express cable car. From Klein Matterhorn, you will see the mountain from the South-East, which is quite a different perspective than from Gornergrat. It's an impressive sight and just the ride is a unique experience.

The first part of your trip is getting to the car free resort of Zermatt. It can be reached by train as explained in my other video on Zermatt. From the rail station, follow the signs to the Matterhorn Express cablecar station. This takes  20 minutes on foot and if you are interested in this walk I have also posted a walking tour video on that. if you prefer to drive, there are electric buses to get you there.

The actual trip starts from the valley station, at an altitude of 1640 m (5,380 ft). You will board the cable car which will get you to Trockener Steg at 2939 m (9,642 ft) which will be final station for this video. Another cable car will take you further up to the Klein Matterhorn Glacier Paradise which in itself is a memorable trip as well and I have another video on that linked below.

The route crosses the forests and meadows just outside Zermatt. You will pass mid station Furi at 1867 m (6,125 ft) and Schwarzsee. After bits of forests, the  cable car will fly over a rough, rocky, high alpine landscape.

The entire ride from Zermatt to Trockener Steg takes about 30 minutes. Including the trip from Zermatt, you should allocate a minimum of 3 hours. Make sure you check the timetable before you start your trip as the last cable car descents at about 5:30pm in summer. Also check the weather forecast and the webcam at www.matterhornparadise.ch as there's no point in going up if the mountains are covered in clouds.
