What is a Shop and Establishment registration?
The Tamil Nadu Shop and Establishment Act, 1947 regulates the conduct of Tamil Nadu shops and business establishments. According to this Act:
The establishment is: “establishment means a shop. Moreover, Commercial establishment, restaurant, eating house, theatre or any place of public amusement or entertainment and includes such establishment as the State Government for this Act”
The shop is “shop´ means any premises where any trade or business is carried on or where services are rendered to customers and includes offices, storerooms, godowns, and warehouses, whether in the same premises or otherwise, used in connection with such business but does not include a restaurant or commercial establishments.”
Who needs to register under the Shop and Establishment Act in Tamil Nadu?
Each shop or establishment that carries trade, company, or services within the state of Tamil Nadu needs to register under this act. Additionally, some commercial establishments that are required to register under this act are shops, residential hotels, eating-house, restaurant, theatre, places of public amusement or entertainment, and other commercial establishments as required by the act.
