Kerala Story 2 Faces Court Review, CBFC Cuts 50% Scenes Over Controversy

Описание: The Kerala High Court has raised concerns over the teaser and trailer of The Kerala Story 2, directing that the film be screened in court before its release. Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas noted that the portrayal of Kerala’s people could wrongly suggest communal tensions, warning the filmmakers against misrepresentation.

Meanwhile, the CBFC has asked the makers to submit documents to support claims that the film is “based on true events” and suggested 16 modifications, including cutting 50% of scenes showing violence against women and reducing lip-locking scenes. Scenes of demolition using a bulldozer were also removed, and certain dialogues muted.

Filmmaker Sudipto Sen, who directed the original 2023 hit that won two National Awards, will not direct the sequel. He emphasized that sensitive subjects require thorough research beyond newspaper reports or WhatsApp forwards.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan criticized the film, calling it “false propaganda” and “poisonous,” while petitions have been filed seeking cancellation of the February 27 release.

The controversy highlights the fine line between creative storytelling and responsible representation of real communities.
