Kerry Jacobson Interview (2023) - Drummer of Dragon

Описание: In this episode of Vinyl Vibes, Jack is joined by Kerry Jacobson, drummer of Dragon. Kerry join Dragon in 1976 after the passing of original drummer Neil Storey. He joined just as the band began recording their third album Sunshine. Get that Jive would be Kerry's first single with the group and it would be their biggest hit at that point in 1977 reaching number 13 on the charts. However the group would have a bigger hit in late 1977 with the release of April Sun In Cuba. The song would become an Australian musical icon but would only reach number two at the time due to Wings song "Mull of Kintyre" holding the number one spot for weeks on end.

After a disastrous tour of the US in late 1978, on the band returning to Australia, the bands song "Are You Old Enough?" had reached number one in Australia, their only number one hit in Australia. Marc Hunter was fired from the group soon after and the band released a commercially unsuccessful album called Power Play in 1979. The group would go on hiatus till 1982 where Kerry would join them on drums for their hit song "Rain". This would be the last song Kerry would be featured on before leaving the group in 1983.

Kerry has stayed in music playing with the likes of Ian Moss and Mondo Rock. Over the lockdown era, he formed a new group called The Filthy Animals.

Jack phoned Kerry to discuss his early musical beginnings growing up in New Zealand, his early bands, the difference in music scenes between New Zealand and Australia in the mid '70s, how he came to join Dragon, the recording of the groups album Sunshine, the groups early gigs, how April Sun In Cuba came to be, the success of the song, the front cover of the groups album Running Free, the groups US tour of 1978, the groups only number one "Are You Old Enough?", the groups hiatus in the early '80s, the reformation of the group in 1982, the bands big hit "Rain", his music work post Dragon and his new band The Filthy Animals.
