Описание: Too often, shelters are designed with a narrow set of needs in mind, leaving many—like older adults, people who use drugs, and pet owners—without safe or appropriate emergency options. This session highlights three innovative models that reimagine shelter as a space of dignity, connection, and rights-based care. Presenters will share insights from a B.C. shelter for older adults, a pet-inclusive pilot in Peel Region, and national strategies aimed at making shelters more accessible for people facing systemic exclusion. Participants will leave with practical tools to transform shelter policies and create inclusive, health-promoting environments that reduce reliance on encampments and support better long-term housing outcomes.
