Santa Fe Southern Railway Switching Operation

Описание: Now that the Lamy Depot and the Santa Fe Southern Railway are under new ownership, things are really looking up! The Chili Line Brewery Taproom is back in business and with the requirements that customers can’t be served inside during the COVID-19 pandemic, the weed covered area next to the old Talladega dining car is being prepared for more outdoor seating.

Today, SFSR 07, is going to be doing some switching in the yard to move the boxcar to the depot. The first order of business is to start 07 and conductor Rodney and engineer Erich go through the procedure of starting the locomotive. SFSR 07 is an EMD GP7u originally built in 1952.
The Santa Fe Southern Railway is an 18.1-mile spur line between New Mexico’s capital, Santa Fe, and the depot at Lamy, a village in New Mexico. Three partners, Bill Banowsky, Catherine Oppenheimer, and George R.R. Martin came together due to shared interest and closeness to the Santa Fe Railyard The railroad will be operated by John Howell, owner of the Northern Illinois and Wisconsin Railway.
Regularly scheduled passenger services stopped on the rail-line in 2014. It has since been used for private events and the odd shoot for movies or TV. The trio of Martin, Oppenheimer, and Banowsky has had to push hard to arrive at this fruitful outcome of ownership. The process started in June 2019 with buying a mortgage on the real estate. And it finished with acquiring close to 89% shares of the railroad and the Santa Fe Southern; along with ten train cars and two locomotives. The Lamy depot falls on the route of the Amtrak Southwest Chief train between Chicago and Los Angeles. Amtrak’s lease on the Lamy depot ends soon.
After 07 warms up we take to the skies to watch the movements in the yard. The first order of business is to get 93 and 1195 out of the way so that 07 can move up to the boxcar area.
Number 7 finally moves up the line to couple onto the baggage combo car, flat car, boxcar and one of the cabooses. The last job is to pick up the other caboose and then move them behind the depot.
