In this episode, we explore Jiuzhou Ancient Town and Yunshantun, hidden deep in the mountains of Anshun, Guizhou. Here lives a unique group of people known as the "Tunpu" (屯堡). 600 years ago, during the Ming Dynasty, 300,000 soldiers from Nanjing were sent here to guard the frontier. To survive in a hostile land, they turned their villages into impregnable stone fortresses. To remember their home, they recreated the style of "Jiangnan" (Southern China) within these stone walls.
From the Guinness World Record-certified architecture to the unique "stone on the roof" defense mechanisms, this place is not just a tourist attraction—it is a living museum of the Ming Dynasty.
Join me on The Fable Road, and let's listen to the story of these stones.
