Brett Horchar isn't your average multiple sclerosis patient - between treatments for holes in his brain (his words, not mine), you can find him in a CrossFit gym training for his next competition. He's a two-time CrossFit Games champion in their neuromuscular division, one which includes athletes with multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, and chronic Lyme disease.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a disease caused by nerve damage when your immune system attacks your nerves, eating away at their their protective covering and hampering their ability to communicate throughout your body. Brett was diagnosed after he started to lose motor function one day at work. By the end of the day he was in the hospital, on a new journey to learn how to walk again.

We meet a different Brett in 2021, one with a good sense of humor about his challenges and an unstoppable drive to do everything he can to compete in CrossFit and have a long competitive career, despite the sharp wrench multiple sclerosis has thrown in his dreams. No longer is he learning to walk again. Instead, he's yanking 300-lb barbells off the floor and cranking through massive sets of chest-to-bar pull-ups.
