you have seen me so this before if you have watched my previous videos but this might be a more detailed example for those of you who are learning or planning to do alloy your own metal.
this is a closer look at the easiest way to pour small amounts of silver and gold yourself without having to pay for needless markup charged by distributors. rather I find by locating a refinery and purchasing .999 gold bullion and grain at market prices, and then alloying the material yourself can, at times, be considerably cheaper than using pre made stock. this may not always be the case with silver as anything larger than an ounce May not be time efficient or cost effective to mill and forge large sections of sheet , considerable length of wire or specific sheet. however gold is much easier to produce these items, or perhaps I should say faster. also there will generally be less gold relative to silver in your work, as is usual, for instance over the course of a career I have made many pieces in the large and chunky category. necklaces and bracelets and pendants which can weigh well over an ounce or even two at times, rarely will you ever be working with that much gold at any one moment on any one piece.
the benefits much be weighed but I prefer to alloy my own gold and sterling as often as I can, I feel it makes the item much more....personal, for lack of a better word.but either way this is a cool eye candy video either way
this one here is 18k yellow gold, there is another video coming of 14k white. enjoy!
