Описание: In his talk, Marwaha explores how the invisible power of technology, the internet, and social media enrich the lives of millennials in India. Highlighting profound stories from his research and interviews with more than 800 Indian millennials, educators, business leaders, and policymakers, he finds that the internet has single-handedly provided millions across India with platforms to launch themselves towards better lives and opportunities for self-development, slowly breaking the chains of tradition. Despite the toxicity and addiction of social media, its primary functions give millennials, especially women and minorities, new and unprecedented avenues to express themselves and improve their lives when physical spaces may not let them. Vivan Marwaha has spent the last two years interviewing more than 800 millennials, educators, business leaders, and policymakers for his forthcoming book on the economic aspirations, social views, and political attitudes of Indian millennials. Through his extensive field research, which included travelling across more than 30,000 kilometres in 13 Indian states, Vivan narrates an intimate and data-driven biography of India’s most dynamic generation. A prolific writer, he has contributed op-eds to The Washington Post, The Times of India, Mint, Firstpost, and The Print. His book will be published by Penguin Random House in Spring 2020. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
