Transmission Thrust Washer - International Auto Parts

This is a tech tip from International Auto Parts regarding a problem you may run into when installing the transmission in your Fiat Spider.

The input shaft of the transmission is spring loaded. A circlip on the front bearing keeps the input shaft from being pushed too far back into the transmission.

A thrust washer has to be installed onto the front face of the bearing to position the input shaft. The thrust washer is also placed in the bell housing. The bell housing is fastened to the front of the gearbox. The raised center portion of the washer will be facing the transmission.

That's all there is to it. If you fail to put this washer in, the transmission will probably fail within about 300 miles.
