Note that although Avanti services don't stop at them Conwy, Penmaemawr, Llanfairfechan, Llanfairpwll, Bodorgan, Ty Croes, Rhosneigr and Valley are request stops. Avanti West Coast services from Crewe to Holyhead operate a number of services each day (route C) with the most trains having the calling pattern in this video but some services do not call at Flint or Prestatyn. In the full timetable there is an hourly Avanti service between Crewe and Chester as part of the London Euston to Chester service which also calls at Milton Keynes Central however this service has not operated in full for a few years Avanti service onwards from Chester along the North Wales coast do not operate every hour with only some services continuing on the route. 1 train a day operates a portion to Wrexham General from Chester after detaching from a Holyhead service.

Most services on this route are operated by Transport for Wales who (in the full timetable) operate 1 all stations service between Chester and Llandudno Junction as part of the Manchester Airport to Llandudno service which provides an hourly service to all stations on this section of the route. The other regular TfW service is a semi fast service (same stations as Avanti) between Chester and Llandudno Junction which then continues to Holyhead with every train stopping at Bangor but the request stops receiving less frequent calls, this service alternated between starting at Birmingham International and Cardiff Central and forms the hourly Shrewsbury to Chester service. Other services operate at certain times and a new service to Liverpool Lime Street is planned. At Llandudno Junction connections to the Conwy Valley line can be made. At Holyhead ferry connections can be made to Ireland.

The rolling stock on this route is class 221 Super Voyager trains for all Avanti services as class 390 Pendolino do not/can not operate on this route. These trains are planned to be replaced by new bi mode class 805 Hitachi units in the next few years. Transport for Wales services on this route are currently mainly class 158 2 carriage Express Sprinter and class 175 2/3 carriage Coradia units an class 150 2 carriage Sprinter can be used on some services. These trains are being replaced by 2/3 carriage class 197 CAF Civity units.

This route is unelectrified throughout with the exception of Crewe station and 1 platform (for Merseyrail) at Chester. This route is mostly double track throughout with a single track section on the bridge to Anglesey between Bangor and Llanfairpwll. For parts of this route the railway line runs alongside the North Wales coast with the main sections of this between Prestatyn and Colwyn Bay and between Llandudno Junction and Bangor.
