2シーターオープンボディにエンジンをミッドマウントしたブリティッシュライトウエイトスポーツがローバーMGF。
グレードは120馬力の1.8L直列4気筒DOHCエンジンを搭載する「1.8i」と可変バルブタイミング機構を備える145馬力の「1.8iVVC」の2タイプが設定された。
前後ダブルウィッシュボーンのサスペンションには金属製スプリングではなく、ハイドラガス・サスペンションを採用、ブレーキはフロントがベンチレーテッドディスク、リアはディスクであった。

1998年、500台限定で登場したアビンドン・リミテッドエディションは、1.8iとVVCの両モデルに用意された(日本では1.8iのみ)もので、「ブルックランズ・グリーン」と呼ばれるメタリックでは無いソリッドのボディカラーにベージュの幌と同じくベージュのレザーにパイピングが入ったシート、そしてクロームメッキのシガーライターや灰皿、ドアハンドル、ステンレスのメッシュグリルなどを装備していた。

The Rover MGF is a British light weight sport with an engine mounted on a 2-seater open body.

Two grades were set: "1.8i" equipped with a 120-hp 1.8L inline 4-cylinder DOHC engine and "1.8iVVC" equipped with a variable valve timing mechanism.

The front and rear double wishbone suspensions were not made of metal springs but hydra gas suspensions. The brakes were ventilated discs on the front and discs on the rear.



Abingdon Limited Edition, which appeared only in 500 in 1998, was prepared for both 1.8i and VVC models (1.8i only in Japan), and it is a solid body color that is not metallic, called `` Brooklands Green '' As well as the beige hood, it was equipped with beige leather piping and a chrome-plated cigarette lighter, ashtray, door handle, and stainless steel mesh grille.
