beautiful, heavy, offbeat bop expressions from new york vibraphonist Jay Hoggard. the album reflects and explores hoggard's attitudes towards the transatlantic slave trade, as outlined on the insert (viewable on discogs). consider the track 'other side of the ocean', that title, that sound. it's not hard to draw connections here between the album's theming and hoggard's membership in the wesleyan church, which branched off from the methodist episcopal church in the 1840s because of their abolitionist beliefs. this following statement is true of everything i upload on this channel, but especially this album - i'm uploading this with the hope that, in some small part, i might be able to garner this album a little more popularity and help generate interest in a reissue. here's hoping!!!
