SUMMARY:
-------------------
Problem is…We can’t be the best at everything. Something will suffer if you excel in one area your pulling from another. There’s actually a well-known theory behind this called the Four Burner Theory. If you don’t know what it is, it’s simply this. Imagine your life is represented by a stove with four burners on it. Each burner symbolizes one major quadrant of your life. The first burner represent your family. The second burner is your career. The third burner is your friends/social life. The fourth is your personal health. The Four Burner Theory says that in order to be successful you have to cut off one of your burners. And in order to be really successful you have to cut off two! After all, you only have so much energy to give and time to exude that energy. You can only give 100% and you only have 24 hours in a day. Those restraint will never change! So what do we do? We can’t burn all four on high! If they are all four on, equally then all four will burn at 25% capacity. Or in Tigers Woods case we could turn off the other three like he did earlier his career and burn one burner at full capacity super bright! Excelling in one area at a super high level but failing miserably in the other three areas! Tiger was an amazing golfer back then but as we know now not a great father and husband! The other areas of his life suffered and now that he’s leveled that out we’ve seen the consequences of those actions as well. The same is true for me and you. I say renting because they aren’t really yours. We had to do this early on in my career when both my wife and I worked. We leveraged day care for a short time so we both could work. Otherwise we couldn’t have made it all work back then. Now, there is a cost to rent someone else burner. In this case it was actual money. Same can be done with our career burner and some of us have done this already. We’ve scaled our businesses and hired admins, associates and other people to help. The additional help allows you to not burn your career burner so bright and focus on other areas of your life. Leveraging others and their burners is a good way to help keep yours balanced?
