Trains at the new Bayswater Station; After Grade Separation 2017 - Metro Trains Melbourne

Описание: In this video we visit the new Bayswater station on the Belgrave Line; not long after the station was fully completed in mid-2017. The new Bayswater station opened on the 12th December 2016 as part of a grade separation project to remove two nearby level crossings at Mountain Highway and Scoresby Road.

The new station features a wide concourse with a ticket window, waiting room and toilets, while the platform is linked by lifts, stairs and a ramp. The station also features a new bus interchange, a nicely landscaped forecourt area, and is well integrated with the Ringwood - Belgrave rail trail.

In the video we see a couple of X'trapolis EMU's passing through the station on a fairly quiet Sunday afternoon. The station is also situated next to the Bayswater stabling and maintenance depot; opening in 1998 to help replace the former Jolimont Yards. As a bonus, we also see an X'trapolis enter the sidings.

We also see some clips from the two grade separated crossings, although obtaining clips of trains from Scoresby Road was impossible due to high fences with no good vantage point, so as a bonus clip I've included a clip of a X'trapolis recorded further down the line on a separate occasion along the rail trail.

At the time of filming this video I had mixed feelings about the station which still hold true today. Visually I think it looks good and certainly a pleasant looking piece of architecture. However it's another case of style over substance as the long ramp with high shelters leave most of the platform exposed to the wind and rain, replicating the exact problem with the shelters at West Footscray station. A shame then; if we're spending millions of dollars rebuilding stations, can we at least make them functional? Go look at the city of Perth for inspiration of how to design a modern yet functional railway station (cough cough every station on the Joondalup & Mandurah lines).

Fun fact: This video was filmed on a Sunday for a good reason. Oddly enough, trains on the outer edges of the Belgrave (and nearby Lilydale line) run more frequently on weekends than they do on the weekday off-peak, 20 minutes v 30 minutes receptively.
