Aniket Bera is an associate professor of computer science in the College of Science at Purdue University. In this video, he explains how his lab is working to help AI comprehend human emotions. Computers are tools, and they are only as good as their programming. Artificial intelligence today can understand verbal commands, but are unable to grasp other forms of human communication. People communicate using their posture, tone of voice and gestures without needing to think about it. Bera says the goal of his research is to understand and model human behavior and use that to train AI. This information can be used to create the next generation of AI for use in robots, computer graphics applications, and virtual assistants.
