Mets coming off the dramatic win the day before David Wright' game winning RBI in the 9th inning, as both starting pitcher Mike Mussina for the Yankees and Pedro Martinez for the Mets both put out another great pitching performance in this first week of Interleague play and another come from behind win, this time for the Yankees.
Mike Mussina pitches a solid outing, with great control going 7 innings giving up 4 runs (including solo HRs from Carlos Delgado (14) in the 4th inning, and Cliff Floyd (4) in the 7th) on 5 hits, while striking-out 7 walking none. While Mets starter Pedro Martinez has another impressive outing going 7 innings himself, giving up 0 runs on just 4 Yankee hits.
Mets have a 4-0 lead after 8 innings, Mets manager Willie Randolph brings in Mets closer Billy Wagner in the 9th, but the Yankees bounce right back scoring 4 runs in the 9th and take Wagner right out of the game.
Joe Torre brings in Mariano Rivera who manages to keep the Mets scoreless as we goo into extra innings. In the Yankees 11th, and RBI single from 1B Andy Phillips knocks in the go ahead run as the Yankees come from behind and take the lead for good. Rivera puts the Mets down in order in the 11th to earn his 2nd win of the season (2-3) while Mets reliever who came in 11th inning suffers the loss (1-2) Subway Series 2006 tied at 1-1.
