Starting pitchers are Oliver Perez (3-3) for the Mets and Chien-Ming Wang (5-2) for the Yankees. Scoreless until the Mets 4th inning, when they come up with 4 runs and should've been more as Mets 1B Carlos Delgado hit the ball down the LF line; 3B umpire Mike Reilly ruled it a home run but his
partners huddled and reversed the call, replays showed that the ball hit the black base of the pole and thus was a home run Mets manager Willie Randolph argued briefly; moments later, HP umpire Bob Davidson ejected Mets bench coach Jerry Manual had seen a replay and was yelling from the bench. But the 4 runs scored proved to be enough as the game turns into a blow-out scoring 11 runs on 9 hits. Homeruns in the game for the Mets Ryan Church (9th) in the 6th, Jose Reyes (3rd) in the 8th and Hideki Matsui (6th) for the Yanks in the 6th off Perez.
Oliver Perez goes 7.2 innings giving up 2 runs on 3 Yankee hits while striking out 4 and walking 2 to earn his 4th win of the season. Chien-Ming Wang goes the same 7.2 innings giving up 7 runs on 6 hits, while striking out only 1 and walking 3. Mets sweep the two game series.
