Level Crossing | Nunn Street | Benalla, VIC

Описание: This is the Nunn Street Level Crossing located in Benalla, VIC. The crossing has 3 tracks passing through it, which are all Standard Gauge. This crossing sees V/Line Passenger Trains operating between Albury and Melbourne, as well as the Melbourne to Sydney XPT. The crossing also sees Numerous Freight Trains each day. There is also a Third track on the Western side of the crossing, which is the Branch Line to Oaklands, NSW. This line is most commonly used for Grain Trains, which run occasionally. The junction for this line, is just south of the crossing.

These Gated Signals were installed here on the 8th October, 1961.

The crossings equipment consists of: 7 McK&H Bases, Western Cullen Hayes Gate Mechansims (that previously replaced Western Railroad supply Gate Mechansims). Sliver Westinghouse Crossarms on Marked Sliver Westinghouse LED Lights. There is a second Generation Westinghouse Hybrid Bell located on the Western Side of the crossing, and a McK&H Cast Iron Teardrop on the Eastern Side, which is rather rare. Both Bells ring until the gates rise.

This crossing retains its original McK&H Cast Iron Teardrop Bell. This is the only Level Crossing between Melbourne and Albury to have a Teardrop Bell. The crossing also used to retain a second McK&H Teardrop bell on the Western Side of the crossing, but was replaced with the Current Westinghouse Hybrid sometime between 2003-2007. Unfortunately most likely due to its age, the teardrop bell has started to slow down on ringing, and misses every couple of beats. These are signs that the bell is most likely dying of old age.

4th Train: N457 on 8620, Albury to Melbourne.
5th Train: QL011, QL010, QL005 on 6WM7, Port Kembla to Melbourne.
