South Australia’s plantation forests were established in 1876 and now cover about 168,000 hectares across the Fleurieu, Adelaide Hills, Mid North, and Limestone Coast. The main species grown are radiata pine (Pinus radiata) and Tasmanian blue gum (Eucalyptus globulus).
More than 3.1 million cubic metres of logs were harvested from South Australian plantations in 2022–23 (12.4% of Australia’s total plantation harvest), with the South Australian forestry and wood products industries recorded a revenue of around $1.57 billion.
