The really close strike is at 2:05 in the video.
A chase that I very strongly considered calling off resulted in my best lightning strike yet. This was a supercell that produced at least one tornado on Thursday, April 3 as it crossed from Mississippi into Tennessee, clipping Alabama. I positioned near Columbia, TN (SW of Nashville) ahead of this storm around 6:30 PM local time and found a good view with a perfect location with respect to the supercell's path (I left too early; thought the FFD was going to blast me as the inflow tail got near). Do I spy a little funnel in there? The mesocyclone can be seen tucked away as the storm approached. Seeing a few detected lightning events ahead of the storm, I decided to set up my high-speed camera in addition to my timelapse just in case a clear-air bolt would drop. The rest is history.

Lightning information provided by Vaisala's National Lightning Detection Network (NLDN) through weather.us/lightning. The data is used for purely recreational purposes to roughly estimate stroke intensity and distance, the data presented here may be prone to error on my end and should not be considered to be an evaluation of the NLDN's performance.
Thanks to Tom A. Warner and other lightning physicists and researchers who have helped me understand lightning processes explained in my videos. Tom has created a great resource for individuals interested in learning how lightning works.
