Malacanang will not stop Philippine Coast Guard spokesperson for the West Philippine Sea Commodore Jay Tarriela from speaking out against Chinese incursions in territorial waters despite criticism from the Chinese embassy.

Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said she sees no problem with Tarriela’s statements “as long as it is aligned with the message of the President, which is to defend the country’s sovereignty.”

She added the word war between the Chinese embassy and several officials should be resolved through diplomacy.

“Hindi nadadaan ang ganitong klaseng usapan sa ingay…Dapat madaan sa diplamasya,” she said.
“Hindi pwedeng papairalin ang yabang dito.”

The Chinese embassy in the Philippines earlier claimed Tarriela and “certain individuals and institutions in the Philippines” have been “relentlessly attacking and smearing China and spreading false narratives” over the past four weeks.
