No more impeachment 'express lane?' SC ruling to change House impeach rules | DZMM Teleradyo

The House of Representatives will need to change its rules on the impeachment process after the Supreme Court upheld the 1-year bar rule on complaints vs impeachable officials.

Batangas Rep. Gerville Luistro said the SC ruling has made the second mode of impeachment harder, in which a complaint is automatically transmitted to the Senate if it has two-thirds vote of the House.

Included in the new requirements is that impeachment complaints must have accompanying evidence and that copies of the complaint plus evidence should be provided to all the members of the House.

“Basta ang maliwanag ngayon ay napakahirap na po noong second mode ng filing ng impeachment complaint. If in the past this provided the express lane, mas madali at mas mabilis yung transmittal from House to Senate, it is not the same anymore,” she said.
