The verb ‘to have’ has five forms: have, has, had, having and had. Often these are misused while speaking or writing English—especially ‘having’ ‘have had’, ‘has had’ and ‘had had’. This video explains all the uses of the verb ‘to have’ with many examples. For instance, it can be used as the main verb in a sentence or it can be used as a helping verb in a sentence. When it is acting as an auxiliary verb or helping verb it indicates the perfect or perfect continuous tense of the lexical verb in the sentence. When the main verb in the sentence is ‘to have’ and this has to be put in the perfect tense we use ‘have had’, ‘has had’ and ‘had had’. ‘Having’ is very often misused as the video illustrates with many examples. After practising all these, viewers will be able to effortlessly speak or write correct English whenever they need to use ‘to have’ which is very often.
