Description:

20150706: This video; "Fairbanks to Denali," is the first of three parts documenting our bucket list tour to Denali. In part the rationale behind this video was to demonstrate encounters with road construction in Alaska as you travel the roads to various tourist spots around the state. The summer months, a short season, facilitate the repair and upgrading of roads around Alaska. The route from Fairbanks to Denali is no exception, which you will experience by viewing this video.

We left Fairbanks around 09:15 AM on the 6th of July, 2015...a bit sooner than we'd planned as the smoke from nearby forest fires had become overwhelming. Given optimum conditions the trip from Fairbanks to Denali should take around 2 to 3 hours or so to cover the 120 miles. We took over 3.5 hours towing our 25-foot trailer while negotiating all the construction zones.

The smoke had followed us to Denali as well. Although not quite as bad as it had been in Fairbanks...it was still noticeable. A trip into Denali Park on the 7th of July was described by visitors as having been overwhelmed by smoke, rain, haze...generally inclement conditions. They claimed they were lucky to have even seen the road beneath their tires!

One segment of this video is a bit rough due to the sun shining directly into the Dash Cam's Lens. All videos were derived from Dash Cam captures along the way.

Denali the Mountain is elusive to the view. It is visible only about 20% of the time. While we failed to see Denali during our park shuttle tour on the 8th of July, we did see it from a distance while traveling down the George Parks Highway from Fairbanks to Denali, near Clear, AK.
