Arlington National Cemetery - Beauty & Solemnity of the Shrine

Most aesthetically developed and impeccably maintained by US Army, the cemetery grounds offered unimaginable beautiful sights on that summer forenoon - besides feelings of peace, solemnity and pride.

Graves of the soldiers, sailors and airmen are present on neatly mowed green undulating land which is criss-crossed by well laid-out pathways to all sections and prominent locations on the military burial site. Memorial plaques honoring many regiments, brigades, divisions, ship-mates are also placed along the pathways.

One also notes the standardised mechanism and quality control in material, fabrication and placement of headstones of the graves. It is this uniformity which makes every view in any direction most appealing. The beauty is enhanced with presence of oak, maple, fir and numerous other trees which form a part of Memorial Arboretum.

Understand this cemetery of 639 acres is the resting place for over 400,000 servicemen and their kin from all major wars since the American Civil War. And is continually growing.
