First of two videos showing some early season dry fly fishing on small burns / streams on the Isle of Skye, for small, wild brown trout, with a few surprise sea trout smolts to boot. The latter were a welcome sign given in this river, it wasn't totally clear if sea trout could still access this river at the mouth due to a build up of boulders on the beach.
Despite their size, I enjoy fishing these small venues with light tackle and it's a nice way to spend a few hours in lovely scenery. I use a 3 weight rod, a light 3lb tippet, with successful fly patterns in this video being an CDC F Fly and a small black Kinkhammer.
The river is controlled by Portree Angling Association for brown trout, sea trout and occasional salmon. Day tickets are available.
