Previously, when Hakka people were still living in their villages, they made their mĭ cāng for the New Year Festival, and it was a happy event. However, because of some constraints and resources, sometimes they resulted in failure. Today, most of us have forgotten how to make traditional mĭ cāng, and usually buy it on the market. As it is not easy to preserve, it is seldom accessible overseas. However, Hakka people living in the UK use the locally available materials and use a simplified way to make it, and the mĭ cāng is highly similar to the original taste.
