Food safety is the foundation of consumer health and international trade.
For years, Cambodia’s businesses and authorities had to send samples abroad to verify compliance with food safety standards—costly and time‑consuming. That’s changing.
Through the CAPFISH‑Capture: Post-harvest Fisheries Development project, nine public and private laboratories have been supported to achieve ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation. On June 15, 2022, the Institut Pasteur du Cambodge (IPC) signed a Letter of Intent with UNIDO, and today its Laboratory of Environmental Food Safety (LEFS) is successfully accredited for 15 parameters.
This accreditation is more than a certificate—it guarantees international quality, builds trust in test results, and promotes the principle of “one test, one certificate, valid globally.”
The achievement also paved the way for the establishment of Cambodia’s National Agricultural Laboratory (NALS), with technical support from UNIDO and funding from the European Union. Together, these efforts strengthen national capacity, reduce reliance on foreign testing, and open doors for Cambodian products in global markets.
Testing today is Cambodia’s food safety revolution—building trust, protecting consumers, and unlocking international opportunities.
This story is part of the CAPFISH-Capture: Post-harvest Fisheries Development Project, funded by the European Union (EU) and jointly implemented by the Fisheries Administration (FiA) and UNIDO.
