Trump tariffs: Premier Houston urges Canada to remove inter-provincial trade barriers

Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston said Wednesday, following a phone call between Canadian premiers and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, that Canada needs to come together to remove barriers to inter-provincial trade as it fights U.S. President Donald Trump’s anticipated 25 per cent tariffs.
“Nobody wants a Trump tax, so we have to use this time as a rally call to strengthen Canada. That means looking at our own internal trade policies across the country and just asking ourselves simple questions — like ‘why is it so hard to send a bottle of wine from one province to another,’” he said.
Additionally, Houston said he had urged the federal government to “immediately” approve the Energy East pipeline.
Houston said Trump’s threat of tariffs has provided the “urgency” Canada needs to strengthen our country economically — and that projects like the Energy East pipeline will help do that.
