You're in a bear market and you spot your favourite stock or index trading at new lows - how do you quantify risk when going short now!?
The first thing you need to take note when short selling into new lows is to be aware of the vicious bear market rallies you can get - you can get very severe spikes - but often these things can keep going lower.
To quantify the risk you can use fibonacci levels; the point is you're trying to structure the trade based on a numeric value especially if its a one-way street.
Another thing you can do is to simply make use of a moving average.
