A Stirrups is a closed loop of reinforcement bar which has a main function of holding the reinforcement bars together in a reinforced concrete element
the use of stirrups is needed to prevent the columns and beams from buckling and assist in resisting lateral loads like earth quake loads etc.
stirrups and lateral ties both are same if it is placed in columns it is known as lateral ties. if it is placed in beams it is known as stirrups the functions of both differ for beam and columns
It holds the rebars in position and prevents deformation
It position the rods in the same alignment
To secure the beam and column from the buckling and shear failure
The stirrups are resisting the rods under compression and tensile forces
