In Part 1 of this two-part series, HRS Historian Jeff Livingston joins us to discuss the history of and current restoration efforts at the Hawaiian Railway Society, beginning with WACO 6 (Wailua Agricultural Company No. 6), the very first artifact in the Society’s collection.
Jeff shares the origins of this historic plantation locomotive and how it helped launch decades of rail preservation in Hawaiʻi. He also previews additional projects underway, including in this episode:
🪟 Parlor Observation Car 64. A rare window into luxury rail travel on Oahu
⚙️ Locomotive 174. HRS’ 65 ton narrow gauge 1945 Whitcomb
Jeff extends a warm invitation to visit the Hawaiian Railway Society in Ewa Beach, not just for the popular excursion train rides, but to explore the historic collection, witness restoration activities firsthand, and perhaps even get involved as a volunteer.
