The Great Twenty-Ninth Day Gon-Drub or Mahakala Sadhana) has been successfully completed.


This immaculate ancestral dharma of the Kagyü Karma Kamtsang lineage, the glorious Lord of Wisdom, the Black-Cloaked Mgon-po, is based on the intention of the Vajra Tent Tantra, the Mgon-po Revealed Tantra, the Accomplishment-Revealing Tantra, and so on. There are three traditions of practice: the Lord Mgon-po in the form of the father alone, as practiced by Drogön Rechen; the Goddess in the form of the mother alone, as practiced by Düsum Khenpa; and the union of father and mother, as practiced by the Great Accomplished One Pakshi. Additionally, there are the oral instructions of the lineage of the lord of translators, Ngadak Marpa Lotsawa, which are passed down from mouth to ear, heart to heart, and mind to mind by the Kagyu Karmapa and his descendants. The essence of all these traditions, distilled into the heart of the teachings, was elucidated by the Sixth Karmapa, Thongwa Dönön, who unified the traditions and established a practice lineage. This is the main tradition that is practiced.

During the time of the Seventh Lord, Chok Drak Gyatso, the tradition of physically constructing statues of the protector deity emerged. In the Great Protector's Service Manual, "The Destroyer of Enemies" or the "Protector's Manual," composed by Lord Thongwa Donlen, which possesses the unique qualities of both the tantra and the pith instructions, the Fifth Red Hat Holder, Konchok Yenlak, compiled or separately categorized the ritual of the "Yellow Mother" from the "Destroyer of Enemies." This text is recited by most of the monasteries of the Karma Kamtsang tradition lineage as a monthly offering during the Twenty Ninth day of the lunar month.

In particular, during the time of the King of the Dharma, Tekchok Dorje, the tradition of the Great Annual Ninth Day Offering with dance and drama was first established at the seat of Tsurphu. Since then, in the last months of winter, middle winter, and early winter, the tradition of the Great Ninth Day Offering has spread widely throughout Tibet, adapted to the local customs of celebrating the new and old years.

Similarly, at this seat, following the instructions of the venerable Bokar Dorje Chang Chenpo and the venerable Khenchen Rinpoche, the immaculate tradition of Pal Karma's seat of Tsurphur Dolo Lung has been preserved through the lineage of direct transmission.

In the year 2000, the first grand Gu-tor (dance festival) was organized, and it has been continuously developing and improving ever since. From 2007 onwards, the dance and drama performances have become a regular part of the tradition. This year, with the aim of benefiting the teachings and beings in general, and particularly to ensure the long life and well-being of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, the great compassionate and omniscient protector of the world, and the Karma Kagyu lineage's supreme jewel, His Holiness the 17th Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorje, along with all the holders and protectors of the teachings, the respected Kyabje Khenchen Rinpoche and the supreme incarnation Sangye Tenzin Rinpoche, the vajra master of the monastery, presided over the assembly. In accordance with the time when the protector deity moves during the first month of winter, a grand offering of sacred substances was made to delight the mother and father protectors. The ritual involved the performance of the praise and practice of accomplishment, as well as the lower work of liberating enemies and obstacles, culminating in the final act of the vajra dance and fire offering. The preliminary rituals, including the dance rehearsals, drum rehearsals, and the ritual site preparation, were completed beforehand. The actual seven-day dance and drama performances, culminating in the fire offering, were held from January 10, 2026, corresponding to the 22nd day of the first month of winter in the 17th Rabjung cycle, the year of the Wooden Snake.

Today, on the 30th day, at dawn, we performed the ritual of receiving siddhis and offered the smoke offering of Nectar Cloud to the main deities, as well as the protectors Ma and Gon, and Gar. We also offered to Mahakala, the Six-Armed Protector, the unique protector Palgon Drakshad, the local deity of Burkar, the great virtuous resident, the great guardian Nyenchen Thangla, and other deities of the Three Roots, local deities, and protectors of the white side. Along with the thanksgiving smoke offering, we successfully completed the great Gu Gutor offering ceremony. This was done with great effort and dedication, day and night, without taking shortcuts or disrespecting the traditions of the previous masters.
