TEMPLE NORMANTON: North East Derbyshire Parish #2 of 24

Описание: Back into North East Derbyshire we go today and we're looking at one of the district's smallest in this episode, and also one of the district's most interesting churches too. In fact, that church is so special, there are no other churches like it anywhere in the ENTIRE country! Yes, today my friends, we come to a place in which "half a baked bean can" is used as a place of worship!

That's a crude nickname for the church in actual fact, but one that accurately does describe the shape and style of the building in question. You see, here in this village there have been no less than four churches, all built in varying styles and the latest one here was created in the 1980s, out of orange reinforced glass and plastic, at in the shape of a half cylinder!, yet the original Victorian churchyard still remains. It's an odd one, but you love the uniqueness of these things right?

Even if you don't there still some much more normal stuff in this one, like a park and a school and the bus stops etc, but you won't find any shops here or any kind of amenities really. This village is bereft of all of those. In tomes gone by it did have a colliery, the massive Bonds Main, which closed in 1949 after providing this village with employment for some 52 years.

A short trip down Postman's Lane takes us under the Hasland Bypass, AKA the A617, the main road between Chesterfield and Mansfield, which is also the location of a solar photovoltaic farm. All of this is perched on top of a prominent hill top, five miles South East of Chesterfield town centre.

There might not be much here, but this was a nice walk around the parish of TEMPLE NORMANTON.
